Send Attachment via Gmail While You Are Offline

Gmail offers lots of useful feature for personal as well as business use. Recently gmail team has announced the addition of a new feature which enables users to send attachments even when they are offline. This is one of the most requested features for Offline Gmail to include attachments in messages composed while offline.

Now attachments work just the way you would expect them to whether you are online or offline (with the exception that when you're offline you won't be able to include inline images). Just add the attachment and send your message.

If you have Offline Gmail enabled, you'll notice that all your mail now goes through the outbox, regardless of whether you're online or offline. This allows Gmail to capture all attachments, even if you suddenly get disconnected from network. If you're online, your mail will quickly be sent along to its destination.

Visit the Labs tab and follow these instructions to get started:

  1. Select Enable next to Offline Gmail.
  2. Click Save Changes.
  3. After your browser reloads, you'll see a new "Offline" link in the upper righthand corner of the Gmail page, next to your username. Click this link to start the offline set up process and download Gears if you don't already have it.

Microsoft Education Lab Released “Math Worksheet Generator” To Practice Math Problems

image Do you spend a lot of time searching for worksheets with practice problems to give your students? Now you can easily create your own in just a few seconds with the Math Worksheet Generator. Microsoft Education Lab announced the release of a helpful new tool called the Math Worksheet Generator.  This one is aimed at math teachers, tutors, parents, or anyone wanting to practice math problems with an accompanying answer sheet (and for those folks already using Microsoft Math, a step by step explanation of answers).

Many teachers spend a lot of time searching for and photocopying printable worksheets. Math Worksheet Generator eases this burden. This is a tool that generates multiple math problems based on a sample, and then creates a worksheet that you can distribute. By analyzing the math problem you provide, or one of the built-in samples, the generator determines the structure of the expression and provides similar problems. It also tacks on an answer sheet too.

Just type in a practice equation or select from pre-populated list of problem types, select how many you want on your printable worksheet, and click create.  The tool will generate a Word document (or HTML if you don’t have Word installed) with similar sample problems along with an answer sheet. The Math Worksheet Generator works best with Word 2007. If you have that, then the tool creates a Word document and the expressions are editable.

It’s powered by the Microsoft Math engine which means it is able to support a wide array of  equations and formulas, and can provide answers for all of them.  First version focuses on some of the core math skills from basic arithmetic through algebra.

Check out this release note for more details.

PayScale Provides Decision-Based Answers to Bing Salary Searches

PayScale, Inc., the world's largest real-time salary dataset, announced a service that enables all Bing users seeking answers to salary related queries to receive immediate answers from PayScale.com's 17.5 million+ dataset. PayScale is providing instant answers to salary queries on Bing for the 4000 most popular job titles (e.g. architect, concierge, lawyer). Searches will return national salary figures, with metro-specific information also available.

"Extending PayScale's real-time salary data capabilities to Bing users is another proof point that workers and job seekers are hungry for this kind of information and that the Web has become a go-to source for decision-making intelligence" said Mike Metzger, CEO of PayScale. "Even during a volatile economic downturn where jobs are being lost, salary data and career-related information will stay top of mind for all workers and job seekers. PayScale, with our real-time dataset, will offer Bing the freshest, most accurate salary information currently available."

Real-time salary information, analytics, and career-planning tools from PayScale serve as a resource for millions of individuals every month. Business leaders needing to make strategic HR decisions and manage their talent find PayScale's compensation suite of business applications to be a powerful aide in a quickly evolving job market.

According to Microsoft Corp.'s announcement, the company identified three design goals to guide the development of Bing: deliver great results; deliver a more organized experience; and simplify tasks and provide insight, leading to faster, more confident decisions.

Every day tens of thousands of people take PayScale's salary survey to compare their pay anonymously with their peers and improve their understanding of the job market. PayScale has created the concept of anonymously comparing your salary online - in detail - to other real people with similar individual and job characteristics (e.g. location, company type and size, job title, experience, education, skills, and more.) Using an advanced search and proprietary matching technology, PayScale finds a relevant peer group from its dataset that matches the user-provided job information. The system allows every user's job profile to be unique and relevant to his/her different job requirements. This creates a level of accuracy that cannot be achieved with traditional methodologies and allows individuals to better understand earning potential.

Yahoo! Image Search Launched “Creative Commons License Filter”

It is always tricky to search for the great images on the net. If you are planning to use the picture to pop into a presentation or illustrate a Web page, you need to know if you’re allowed to use that photo, and how you can use it. Before using the image, you must have to make sure you are fulfilling the licensing condition for use.

Today, Yahoo! Image Search is launching a Creative Commons license filter that allows you to simply and quickly find images that are available for reuse.

When you use Yahoo! Image Search, you’ll now see a checkbox for Creative Commons allowing you to filter for images from Flickr that can be used commercially or that can be modified (remixed, tweaked, or built upon) with restrictions set by the image’s creator.

Yahoo! Image Search Creative Commons Filter

By launching the Creative Commons license search with Flickr and making it available to all Yahoo! Image Search users, Yahoo! aims to promote reusable work and to be transparent about the guidelines issued by the creator of a particular image. Yahoo! is the first image search engine to offer this capability.

There is a great competition to maximize the use of image search. Google recently introduced Similar Search feature which allows you to search for images using pictures rather than words.
