NYTimes.com Launches 'Shifting Careers,' a New Blog for the Small Business Section

NYTimes.com introduced today "Shifting Careers", a new blog dedicated to the ways people are reinventing their careers as entrepreneurs and independent business owners. Marci Alboher, NYTimes.com's Shifting Careers columnist, will write the blog. Ms. Alboher will post regularly with tools and tips for changing careers, reader success stories and Q. & A. forums with outside contributors.

"Shifting Careers is part of our effort to develop more online offerings for entrepreneurs and small business owners," said Lawrence Ingrassia, business editor, The New York Times. "The blog will also appeal to those readers who are trying to creatively manage their careers in a dynamic and changing workplace."

"This new blog is yet another way we are enhancing our popular small business section," said Vivian Schiller, senior vice president and general manager, NYTimes.com. "We're excited to bring Marci's thoughtful advice and insights to our readers on this blog, a forum for the exchange of views on career innovations, problems and challenges."

Ms. Alboher is a former corporate lawyer who has been writing about workplace issues and careers for The New York Times since 2001. She is also the author of "One Person/Multiple Careers: A New Model for Work/Life Success," (Warner Books, 2007). Her book celebrates the notion of building a life filled with slashes, and as a journalist, speaker and writing coach, she both chronicles and participates in the growing slash career movement.

The blog is an extension of the Shifting Careers column, a regular feature of The Times's Small Business section which launched in May.
