Six Apart announces availability of the Movable Type Enterprise Solution

Six Apart, the world’s leading blogging software and services company, today announced the commercial release of the Movable Type Enterprise Solution (MTES), a package of enterprise-grade features and support that extends the functionality of the Movable Type platform. MTES is built upon Movable Type 4, the recently released upgrade to the pioneering publishing platform that powers professional website content management and social media for individuals, organizations and businesses.

The Movable Type Enterprise Solution announced today is the successor to Movable Type Enterprise, introduced in mid-2006, and enables companies to quickly set up, deploy, and manage thousands of blogs and blog networks throughout an organization. MTES also enables large-scale content management and community capabilities. It is the first platform to introduce key web 2.0 elements to the enterprise, from end-user favorites such as tagging and blogging from the iPhone or other mobile devices, to innovative technologies such as the OpenID single sign-on protocol, to robust integration with enterprise-grade databases and directory services. Because it is built on the core Movable Type 4 platform, the Movable Type Enterprise Solution is also the first social media platform that lets enterprises scale successful deployments from small, one-off departmental initiatives into strategic global enterprise deployments.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response from our customers and community since we introduced Movable Type 4 in mid-August,” stated Chris Alden, Chairman & CEO of Six Apart. “We’re delighted to introduce a solution that helps our enterprise customers connect thousands of employees, initiate group conversations, and share information across departments. Enterprise users deserve the same powerful and usable social media tools that individuals and small businesses use, and enterprise IT departments should expect these tools to be delivered in a manageable, reliable platform. The Movable Type Enterprise Solution meets both requirements.”

The Movable Type Enterprise Solution includes LDAP directory support, connecting Movable Type to a variety of LDAP-compliant directory servers such as Active Directory, OpenLDAP, iPlanet, and others. LDAP capability combined with customizable role management in the Movable Type Enterprise Solution make it easy to set up and manage unlimited employee and departmental blogs. Support for the Oracle 10g and beyond, and the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is also included in the Enterprise Solution, extending existing support for MySQL and PosgreSQL databases that is built into the Movable Type platform. The Movable Type Enterprise Solution also supports the same plugin architecture as the core Movable Type 4 platform, enabling hundreds of third-party extensions and customizations to extend the platform.
