NY Times opens 'TheTimesCenter'

The New York Times opens the doors today to TheTimesCenter, its new state-of-the-art cultural center and performance space. The Center is now the official venue for The Times's signature events including the TimesTalks series, The Great Literary Brunch, Arts & Leisure Week and Sunday with The Magazine. The first event is a sold-out TimesTalks discussion tonight with the actor Sir Ian McKellen. The Center's fall preview season includes many events open to the public from several outside organizations.

"TheTimesCenter is a wonderful addition to New York's cultural scene and we are thrilled to call it home for our signature events," said Alyse Myers, vice president, brand programs, The New York Times. "We're also delighted that others have discovered it is a beautiful and versatile space with an ideal location in the heart of Times Square."

TheTimesCenter was designed by the acclaimed architect Renzo Piano, who also designed The New York Times Building. It features an abundance of natural light and rich colors and textures making it an ideal and welcoming location for events.

TheTimesCenter is comprised of two separate spaces: TheTimesCenter Stage and TheTimesCenter Hall.

TheStage is appropriate for lectures, small concerts, film screenings, readings, one-person shows, workshops, meetings, seminars, symposia, debates, educational programs, multi-media presentations, awards programs, television and radio broadcasts and product launches. TheStage area of TheTimesCenter features a 378-seat auditorium with a stage measuring 65 feet by 15 feet and can expand to 65 feet by 25 feet. TheStage includes wireless Internet feeds for meetings and distance-learning events as well as greenrooms, dressing rooms and production office facilities.

TheHall is ideal for banquets, receptions, trade shows, exhibitions, performances, lectures, workshops, and meetings. TheHall is a 4,958 square foot room located directly below TheStage that can accommodate 400 people for banquets and as many as 700 for receptions. It is also appropriate for trade shows, exhibitions, lectures and meetings. TheHall includes a caterer's staging/warming area.

Besides being home to the many cultural and educational programs presented by The New York Times, TheTimesCenter is available for rental and is a perfect setting for a wide array of performances, events, and meetings.

TheTimesCenter is located in The New York Times Building at 242 West 41st Street in New York City.
